Sallie's Story
I joined CrossFit Inspire in October 2016 to get back into shape. At 55, I realized I needed a gym that would incorporate both cardio and weight lifting exercises. Having most of my previous routines based primarily in cardio, I wasn’t sure how successful I would be with weight lifting and the weighted movements.
"...Cheering me through a workout when I did not necessarily know if I could keep going, but also pushing me a little further outside my comfort zone..."
So on the first day of class, there were Wall-Balls in the workout. I picked up the 10lb. Wall Ball, and tried to do the movement. Two attempts in, I realized that the Wall-Ball was too heavy and told the coach. He scaled the movement immediately by putting the Wall Ball on the ground and having me squat down to touch it. This allowed me to learn the movement correctly.
Scaling movements has allowed me to learn the movement and to get a good workout without risking injury.
The CrossFit Inspire community has always made me feel welcome. Cheering me through a workout when I did not necessarily know if I could keep going, but also pushing me a little further outside my comfort zone. My favorite saying here is “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” Being able to move out of my comfort zone and gain strength, allows me to live the life I want.
